Basslink
Basslink is a HVDC link crossing Bass Strait, connecting the Loy Yang Power Station, Victoria on the Australian mainland to the George Town substation in northern Tasmania.
In August 2007, Basslink was purchased by CSIM, the trustee-manager of CitySpring.
Basslink is the world's longest sub-sea power cable. Commissioned in April 2006, it is a 360 kilometre link between Tasmania and mainland Australia.
The Basslink Interconnector has been operational since 29th April 2006. From that time it has achieved an availability of 99.6 %.
On a daily basis up to 500 MW are transmitted across the interconnector in both directions.
In its first year of operation Basslink supplied 1920GWh to Tasmania and 450GWh to the National Electricity Market.
The reliability of Basslink is comparable to the highest performing interconnectors in the world.
